Why I'm Running
Advocacy for Families, Students, & Educators:
Our schools are strongest when the people who rely on them every day have a real voice in shaping their future. As an educator I recognize and work daily with the complex needs of today’s students. Because of this experience, I don't just see policy on paper, I understand exactly how board decisions and operational oversight affect our students, parents, and educators every single day.As a board member, I have been and will continue to be a steady advocate for families, students, and educators, ensuring their experiences guide district decisions. My continued commitment is to elevate community perspectives so policies reflect real needs, not assumptions. I will work to ensure students feel supported, families feel heard, and educators feel valued as essential partners in our district’s success.Robbinsdale deserves leadership that listens first. When we bring diverse voices together, we create policies that reflect our shared values and strengthen trust across the community. My approach centers on collaboration, open communication, and a genuine belief that our district thrives when decisions are shaped by those who know our schools best.
Partnership for Accountability:
Effective governance requires partnership.I will work closely with students, families, and educators to ensure district policies are informed, responsive, and grounded in lived experience.• I will advocate for reinstating the Finance Advisory Committee (FAC), expanding its membership, and establishing regular opportunities for the school board and FAC to engage openly about the district’s budget.• I will push for a Listening Time that reflects what our community has repeatedly asked for including live-streamed sessions, multiple ways to share feedback, and accessible formats that meet families where they are. Community input should never be limited to those who can attend.• I will advocate for a student-led advisory group to the school board, designed and directed by students themselves. When students lead, we gain insight that adults alone cannot provide, and we build a district that honors their agency.• I will advocate for adding a community input process to the policy committee, ensuring that families, educators, and local partners help shape the rules that guide our schools. These partnerships help us make better decisions, allocate resources wisely, and maintain transparency in how we operate. My commitment is to keep these partnerships active, meaningful, and central to how we move forward. When we listen to each other, we build trust, and trust is the foundation of a healthy school district.
Financial Stewardship & District Oversight:
A financially stable district is essential for student success.Oversight is how we ensure our schools remain aligned with community values and state requirements. As a board member, I will serve as a bridge between the community and district leadership, advocating for the resources our students and educators need to succeed. My focus remains on accountability, fairness, and keeping student outcomes at the center of every conversation. I am committed to reviewing district performance with clarity and consistency, examining data on graduation rates, test scores, equity initiatives, and program effectiveness.Without formal board policies, successful programming and equity initiatives can be quietly dismantled during leadership changes or revenue shortfalls.I am committed to responsible, forward-looking financial planning that protects our schools today and strengthens them for the future. To successfully accomplish this I will advocate for: budgets that prioritize student achievement, maintain safe and functional facilities, and ensure every dollar is used effectively.
• Mandated Equity Impact Statements: Require the superintendent and Chief Financial Officer to present an equity impact analysis for every major capital expense, program cut, or resource redistribution proposal before the board votes.• My goal is a district that is financially healthy, transparent, and prepared for the challenges ahead.• Fiscal Accountability: Making detailed line-item budgets, vendor contracts, and audit reports easily viewable online.
Transparency:
Transparency has been a cornerstone of my service, and it will remain one of my highest priorities. I have worked to keep the door open, literally and figuratively, so families can access information and understand how decisions are made.I remain committed to transparent governance and the following core pillars:• Open Meetings: Conducting discussions and votes in public sessions rather than behind closed doors.• Community Input: I will seek input before decisions are finalized and advocate for clear, structured opportunities for parents, staff, and voters to provide public comments.• Shared Ownership: Open discussions at the board table that focus on respect, collaboration and varied perspectives in the decision-making process• Earned Credibility: Showing how board work proves we are responsible with constituent tax dollars.• Stronger Partnerships: True accountability unites schools, parents, and voters• Questions & Answers: continuing to ask the questions the community wants answered while sharing that information clearly and proactivelyTransparency is not just a practice; it is a commitment to honest, accountable leadership.
A District Rooted in Community Values:
Robbinsdale deserves a school board that leads with integrity, listens with empathy, and governs with transparency. I am committed to students first, families always, and the community at the center.Together, we can build a district that is financially strong, academically ambitious, and deeply connected to the people it serves.Vote Caroline Long for Robbinsdale School Board
